Holding His Own

Joshua had a great night despite the fever. He is slowly being weaned off of his heart meds, and he's doing well. They are allowing him to be awake more often since his chest is closed, and because of that we get to spend plenty of precious time talking to him and bonding with him (even though we can't hold him.)

He still have a lot of fluid on his chest and torso, so until that comes off, the vent will stay in. He is receiving lasix continuously through an IV to help him get some of that fluid off. His lungs look clear on the x-ray, so as soon as the fluid comes off, the vent comes off.

He also still has a fever, so they are running some cultures to make sure they are treating him properly. If it comes back positive for infection they will give him antibiotics for 48 hours.

This is my sweet boy this morning. Isn't he a doll?!

Perfect....just perfect, in every way!

Glad to read that he had a great night. Looks like he has started moving forward once again. Looks fabulous for 5 days post-op!

We continue to pray for your family.

You can get lost in those eyes! Follow your instincts when you feel or notice something is not right. Our diligence has saved our daughter more than once! Those nurses and doctors no matter how well trained are not memorizing every little detail of your baby. You are. You are already learning so much. Blessings in Christ. Crystal in IL

Praying for you all from Kentucky this morning. Almost two months ago we were sitting next to our HLHS baby while he was on ECMO fighting for his life. I am so happy to hear how well Joshua has done since surgery! I will be praying for his fever to keep going down and for lots and lots of pee! :)

Heart hugs,

He is the most handsome 1 week old ever...other than Teo and Isa. ;) I want to come see you Thursday...can I? Can I? Please...I sent you a text, but you've had a rough couple days, so I understand. Still praying for you guys.

Hi Jill,

I am carrying a little girl with HLHS and found your blog from Adventures of Funky Heart. I've been following the updates on your precious boy and will continue to pray good thoughts for you. My sweet little girl is scheduled to be delivered on October 4th, and then our adventures will begin. I hope to stay in touch with you and to continue to hear about Joshua. For now, know that you and your family are in my prayers.

I was so happy to see that Joshua had a great night. I said a prayer for him this morning and have been thinking of your family and Joshua all day. I know that you don't know me, but I know the journey you are on. Joshua is blessed to have such loving and supportive parents, but I know it is you that feel blessed to have such a beautiful son. I have always said that even though my son's heart may not have been "anatomically perfect", he was still absolutely perfect to me. I pray for Joshua's continued strength. God is with him, as he is with you.

Jill, I wonder if his fever is more due to stress and inflammation than infection. I know this is a different circumstance, but usually babies in the NICU do not run fever when they are sick or infected. It's actually the opposite, their temp goes down. Just a thought. Anyway, so happy that he's doing well! Praying!

What a sweet little guy Jill!! Glad that he is stable and you have been able to enjoy time with him. Saying many prayers for that fluid to come off and for him to be able to get off the vent. That sure does make snuggling extra nice!!
