Angels Here on Earth

Have you ever met an angel here on earth?

One of the many angels who have been caring for my dad came today.

This angel came in the form of an old gentleman with a long beard.

He wore suspenders and an amish style hat that he hung on the hall tree in the front entry way.

He came with a gentle spirit and a willingness to humble himself to a stranger in their greatest time of need.

We had not yet met this man. We knew his name, but that was all.

Up until today, we didn't even know that he existed- yet today, he provided for my dad and our family in a way that will forever affect the way I think.

This man, a complete stranger, came to help bathe my father.

He was a gentle spirit, with kind and compassionate words.

He's been doing this for 30 years.

Bathing complete strangers- Helping to provide them with some form of dignity in their final days here on Earth.

His gentle touch was calming to my dad who has been in excruciating pain over the past few weeks.

In his kindness, he took time to make sure the sheets were changed and that my dad was comfortable and calm when he left.

In his kindness, he cared for my dad, a complete stranger, in a way that I have never before seen.

It seems so minor and insignificant.

But for today, he provided more than a bath and a clean bed.

He provided a glimpse of God's tender love for us.

He provided a glimpse of God's compassion for us.

He provided a glimpse of Eternity.

This man.

This old bearded man.

An angel, sent from God himself to pour out His love on us.

What a blessing.

Thank you Father for the blessings you send us in the midst of our pain. You are an awesome God who loves us so much and wants to bestow so many gifts....if only we would 'see' them.... thank you for Jill's eyes/heart - she saw You! Bless her Lord. Amen

Thank you for sharing this. The little miracles are there, we just have to see and acknowledge them. I know you are hurting--you have experienced so much loss in the past year and a half. I've been following your blog for awhile, but have never commented. Luke is beautiful, I loved your pictures. We just lost my mother-in-law suddenly, but she was at peace. My husband didn't get to see her, but she didn't suffer. I don't know what is better--to die suddenly, without pain, or to have the time to know your death and say goodbye? But, I think in my mother-in-laws case, God knew she had taken care of enough people on this earth with cancer, that he'd just take her quickly and quietly. Your angel story warmed my heart. God bless you at this time.

I'm glad you are able to see the angels God has provided for your family in a time when it would be so easy to close your eyes and shut out the world. God bless those that care for people like your dad. They are indeed angels here on earth.

Much like whe the Lord washed the feet of his disciples. We are humbled most and closet to God when we are in service to others.

Against all hope in hope I believe...Romans 4:18

It's wonderful when God shows himself to us in these little ways and little moments. You said it yourself, it reminds us that He is there in the midst of our trials and tribulations.

Jill,
Our family is in prayer for your fathers comfort.
I just watched a video the other day of a hospice worker that had stated that many of her patients on their last days
describe angels surrounding them of which she does not see.

She stated she knows it is true for all of their stories
are similar. I believe she published a book about these happenings. So, with that said, your father has alot of heavenly friends around him and the one you saw and stated is just one of them. You need to write a tribute about your father's life with you and your family, and read it to him at his bedside and after to share with others. Our prayers are also for all of you to have strength and God's love.
