Seizure Stuff

Joshua's MRI thankfully came back normal. I am praising God that there is no brain damage. I feel like I can actually breathe knowing that my little man is ok.

But, we still have the mystery of why "little Joshy," as his night nurse calls him, had the seizures.

He had 3 last night. 1 at about 8:15pm, one at 9:00pm, and another at 1:00am. The first 2 only last 1-2 minutes. The 3rd lasted for 45 minutes. (I had been told by the morning nurse that it was an hour and a half, but from the night nurse who was there last night told me that it was only 45 minutes.) They gave him a huge bolus dose of a high powered anti convulsion medication to stop him from seizing.

That dose has lasted almost 12 hours. Thankfully today he has not had any seizures (due to the drugs still being in his system). The drugs that they gave him last night have made Mr. Joshua sleep all. day. long. He literally slept from 8am to 5:30pm without moving a muscle. I didn't hold him much during the day because I didn't want to wake him. I figured his little body has gone through so much over the past few days, I just wanted him to rest. So I watched him, prayed for him, and waited for him to wake up. (I will be honest in the fact that I also had quite a few break downs in between.)

The neurologist came in and talked with me today. He is going to start little Joshy (that name has kinda stuck with me) on anti seizure medication. He thinks the seizures could have been caused by his body trying to readjust and recooperate from the crash on Monday, OR he could have a seizure disorder. Either way, he put him on the anti seizure medication for 6 months. Once Joshy is 6 months old, we will try to take him off of the medication and see how he does.

I'm so thankful that there is no brain damage. I'm praising God for his provision in Joshua's life. I'm praising Him for the peace that He brought to me this afternoon. I'm praising him for the medical staff that is here caring for him and doing such an amazing job of keeping him safe.

I'm going to bed tonight with hope for my sweet boy!

I swear I'm not a stalker, but I happened to hit "refresh" during a commercial during Modern Family (I'm watching it for the first time tonight based on friend's recs... but I digress) to see you'd posted the update. Anyway, this post makes me smile ear-to-ear!! One of the best feelings in the world is a feeling of hope! I'm so glad you have it. I'm totally hopeful too!! I just know the doctors will make the best decisions for Joshua. I believe God is working!! No way He couldn't be. AWESOME!!

Jill,
The Shropshires have been keeping me up to date with your sweet Joshua when I see them at church, so this is the first I've checked your blog in a little while. I hate to hear about the setbacks Joshua has experienced - it hits very close to home. But I am quickly reminded of the miraculous work our God did to preserve my own sweet Andrew & I lift Joshua up to Him with hopeful prayer. I also pray He will give you & you husband strength & comfort.

Hi Jill- I have followed Joshua's story for a couple weeks now but have yet to comment and say hello =) I just had to say how thankful I am that Joshua's MRI came back normal. I will never forget the night our son Luke, (now 3 1/2, single ventricle) aspirated and was in so much pain the docs thought he seized. That was the longest night of our lives ... waiting for the MRI results to come back the next morning. In everything we've been through with our sweet boy, that was the hardest. So my heart was with you yesterday and I was praying for good MRI results. Praise the Lord!

Thanks for your blog and for sharing your heart in your writing.

Love,

Jesse

Praise the Lord! This is great news, Jill! I'm so happy for you and sweet "Joshy" that the MRI looks good! I'll pray the anti-seizure meds help and that he'll be able to come off of them at 6 months.

You and Joshua are constantly in my thoughts and prayers! God bless you and keep on trusting in Him!

Heart hugs!

I was so thrilled last night when I saw on Steve's post (Adventure's of a Funky Heart) that the MRI showed no brain damage. God is good!!

Logan was on anti-seizure meds for three months and never again had a seizure. Praying that is the case for Joshua as well.
