We came in this morning and the nurse told us that they are going to start weaning Joshua off of some of the blood pressure medications. They are also going to give him another blood transfusion (when they draw labs, they take what little blood he does have, so they might as well replace it!), and start some more fluids. He has been stable and lasix has been doing its job of removing all the fluid in his body. He has been stable since late Friday night.
If he remains stable as they are weaning his off his medication, they will close his chest tomorrow. That is one step closer to getting him back to the NICU to work on feedings. It's also one step closer to being able to hold him and snuggle him as well as one step closer to home. Please continue to pray that he stays stable and continues to make good steps towards getting back to the NICU and ultimately home.
Shane and I are doing well. Pumping is going great, but it is exhausting. I've been up every 4 hours at night pumping and then every 2 or 3 hours during the day. We are starting to get into a routine here at the hospital as far as eating, sleeping, and entertaining ourselves. We take an hour or so every evening to get out of the hospital for ice cream or a walk or even just driving around. We've not slept at Joshua's bedside yet- we are trying to continue to get as much sleep as possible so that once he starts coming off the drugs and needs us we will be able to be there and be coherent.
See how much the swelling has gone down? He looks like my baby again!
Shane and I were talking last night how we are just amazed at Joshua's strength. He seems to be calling the shots in regards to his recovery and it almost seems like he knows that slow and steady will win the race. While he was in the NICU before surgery all he did was sleep. I don't think he was ever awake for more than about 5 minutes at a time- almost as if he was reserving all of his energy to recovery. Joshua is such a fighter and we can not believe how strong he truly is.

Yay, what a joy to read this morning! Prayed for you guys at Mass this morning and will keep praying for Joshua's healing.
Wonderful news! So glad to hear this! Sending hugs and prayers for you guys! Rainy
What great news! He truly is an amazing little guy. You all are so strong! Always praying!
Heart babies are so strong. It is amazing. They fight through so much everyday and then they look up at you and smile. (well, maybe it will be a month or so before Joshua does that :)) Our Tiernan is one of the happiest kids. Remarkable.
That's what we prayed for right!? strength!!! ;0) Thank you Lord for giving this little guy a fighting spirit and lots and lots of your strength! keep it coming please!!!
He looks awesome! The swelling appears to be going down (thank you lasix!!) Praying that his chest is closed on Monday.
You guys are doing amazing....keep up the good work. Glad to read that your getting out of the hospital for a hour each day. That is so important
Rest and save up your strength...before you know it, Joshua is going to be home and then the real fun begins....running after 3 adorable children! You are blessed beyond words.

Such wonderful news!! Praying that everything continues to go well and he gets moved to the NICU soon.
Yay! Loving the good news on that sweet boy! He looks great. We're still praying hard and waiting for the good news that his chest is closed and he's coming off of some of his meds.
He's a tough guy!
Lots of prayers,
Shannon
I think Joshua needs a superhero onesie with a cape attached: "Super Joshua"!! I'm so relieved to hear all of this news. Praise the Lord!! ;o)
What fabulous news! Strength, courage, perseverance and faith will slowly, but surely, get you home. Continue taking your walk/break each day and making time to catch your breath. Praying for continued good progress and updates.

Love hearing good news! I know you are too busy to carry this on, but I wanted you to know I've given you a blog award. You can see it here: http://mommykellogg.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-just-received-my-first-blog-award.html
He looks great! Be prepared for a little bump when he gets his chest closed. The heart and lungs have to adjust to the new pressures so he will most likely need some meds and extra support while his little body acclimates. This is a huge step in his recovery! Many prayers are being sent. Crystal in IL
Praising God for all of the updates today!
He looks so much better in the photos you posted today. :)
Yay! So happy to hear he is doing well. I have to tell you, while I was reading Kasen kept saying, 'Baby", "Daddy", then he pointed at Joshua and said, "Baby diaper" Ok, I know it's silly, but neat to me!
We are all praying for you and baby Joshua. Your strength is amazing! Molly keeps us up to date and keeps your prayer chain going.
Thinking of you and your little man. Glad things are going well. We will be in your boat in the next 2 weeks. God bless.

Very good news. And he does look good in the pictures. Good color, swelling going down. Definitely progressing! I am glad you are getting some rest too. We slept in the Ronald McDonald House (What a blessing!!) until our daughter was moved out of ICU. That tiny little bench by her bed in the general care wing was not comfortable, to say the least!
