Fire!

So, if you haven't already heard, we had a grease fire in the kitchen yesterday.

Here's what happened, and then I'll write about where we go from here.

2 days ago, we had waffles and sausage for dinner. Shane fried up the sausage, and then we always leave the grease in the pan overnight so we can scrap it into the garbage can the next day after it has solidified. The next day (yesterday) Shane was getting ready to do the dishes, and he turned the burner on. (still not sure what was going on in his mind with that one) He then got distracted, and did a couple things around the house. The he realized that it was lunch time and he wanted to surprise me with lunch at work. So he went and picked up some lunch and came over to my work to eat lunch. He ate with me. After he left, he did a few more errands, and then went home. When he got home, the house was up in smoke. He opened the door, and the entire house was filled with black smoke. The grease in the pan was gone, but the cabinets above the stove were all charred. The stove itself has some damage to it, the knobs burned off, the plastic cover is a bit melted, etc.

We are so lucky it wasn't worse. There was a canister with wooden spoons right next to the stove. If those had caught fire, it would have been a true disaster. There is also a window behind the stove with a curtain that hangs, if that had caught, it would have been much worse. I can't imagine what we would have lost.

Today a fire restoration company is coming to assess the damage. Our homeowners insurance will pay for all of it for just the cost of the deductible. I'll update what they decide to do and how long it will take.

My friend Molly came in last night to see, and she said "I don't know how you still love God." That's an easy one. If we didn't have God, our life would be a complete mess. We would have nothing to get us through it all.

Please don't feel sorry for us. Please don't worry about us. We will be fine. It's just another road block in our quest to serve God to our fullest. Satan is trying to distract us from the Ultimate Prize, but it's not going to work.

If you would like to help us, we ask only for prayers. Prayers that God will be honored, and that we will not let this affect our relationship within our family.

I will update more as we know more! Have a wonderful day everyone!

Praise God that you are all okay and that the fire wasn't worse! I will be praying that God will bring you comfort and peace and that things will go smoothly with the insurance and repairs. (((Hugs!)))

Oh goodness Jill...If that is truly what I said, it is not what I meant. With all of the trials for you and the family this past year, I am so proud that you have allowed these situations to strengthen your faith, not question it. I definitely know how you still love God and am soooo thankful that you do.

You will have an incredible story to share of God's goodness and faithfulness through these difficult trials. I daily see God at work in your life and I am thankful to be a part of it !

Love, Molly :)
