Shane and I went out on a date tonight.
This was the first date we have been on, just the two of us, in over 8 months.
We decided that we needed some time together to celebrate 8 incredible years of wedded bliss (our actual anniversary is tomorrow!)
It was a hot date, let me tell you.
What made it so hot?
I wore jeans.
Yup. That's right. I wore jeans. That is a step up from my cut off yoga pants that I wear day in and day out. (come on....who needs to dress up when all you do is change diapers, pick up toys, do dishes and laundry, and produce milk all day?! Not me.)
I even put on some mascara.
Woweeee. I'm tellin' ya. We live life in the fast lane.
So what did we do, you might be wondering?
We went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. And we drank.......pop (or soda, or coke, or whatever you may call it). HA! I'm telling you, this is the high life!
We usually get water when we go out to eat, because really, who wants to pay $2/pop for 4 people?! Not me.
After dinner -which was fabulous, by the way, we headed over to Lowe's. I know you are totally jealous. I would be if I were you.
We bought all of our needed items for our new house tonight- blinds, appliances, fence, etc.
Let me tell you. If you have ever had to make decisions about such items with children in tow, you appreciate how incredibly wonderful it was for us to shop without littles running around. We were actually able to discuss our purchases without having to tell a wee one to stop biting their brother's fingers, not suck on the handles of the refrigerators, and to get out of the display dryers.
Tonight, I'm looking at these past 8 years with a sense of thankfulness. 8 years ago Shane and I were getting ready to commit our lives to one another. We were anxious and excited about our new lives together. We dreamed, planned, and hoped. We wondered what life would be like in 10 years, 20 years, 30 years. We never expected the heartache that we would come to endure, but we knew that nothing would come between us.
Never did I dream that I would find my husband so incredibly attractive sitting across from me at a restaurant eating steak and marveling at how wonderful fountain pop tastes. I never imagined spending an anniversary at a home improvement store, spending way too much money and actually enjoying every second of it, simply because we were together. I never imagined coming home at (gasp) 10 o'clock to 3 beautiful children who stayed up late to make sure we got home safe, and loving every. blessed. minute. of. it.
I joke about how dorky our date night was, but in actuality, I'm thankful for the night that we had. To some, it may seem like a pitiful way to spend our anniversary, but to me, it was perfect.
Shane, I love you. Thanks for taking an ordinary night and turning it into something so incredibly special. Happy Anniversary, my love.

Sounds like a perfect date to me! Happy 8yrs to you guys!
ha! Our anniversary was this past Thursday: and what did we do? Dinner and a trip to Lowes and Target ;) I'd say that more people do that you realize! There is definitely something to shopping without three little voices and a crying baby to get you off track. Happy anniversary!
I think it sounds lovely!!! Happy Anniversary, you love doves!
