Nope, Not My Children

Before I became a mom, I swore I would never:

~allow my son to play with guns. (Today, I may or may not have bought Caleb his very first set of cowboy guns at the cowboy store in Texas....Sorry mom!!!!)

~allow my kids to run around outside in a diaper (lets not even talk about potty training.....) and t-shirt with no shoes. (Hannah may or may not have been half dressed almost all weekend...)

~encourage my kids to use their shirts and pants as napkins and tissues when none are available. (my kids may or may not be wearing shirts that are covered in spaghetti sauce, snot, and dirt....)

~go more than 2 days without bathing my children. (Their last bath was most definitely NOT almost a week ago...and it if was, I would most definitely NOT use wipes to clean them off multiple times a day!)

~let my kids stay up super late just so I can sleep in in the morning.....(they always go to bed at 8 o'clock on. the. dot.)

~let Caleb skip a week of (pre)school so we could take an completely unplanned and spur of the moment trip to Texas with a friend and her 2 children. (attending school is of utmost importance, and should never be skipped unless absolutely necessary...you know....for spur of the moment trips to Texas.)

~never bribe my kids with Nintendo DS playing time, candy, or playdough in exchange for good behavior or naps! (respect, obedience, and good behavior are always expected without any type of reward...unless they are in a store with plenty of breakables and they need to be controlled somehow!)

~allow my kids to eat marshmallows, oreos, cookies, suckers, popcorn, and candy for snacks while on the road. (Because you all KNOW that I brought carrots, apples, cheeses, pretzels, and whole grain crackers, to ensure all nutritional needs were met while traveling.)

You know, I used to be the perfect mother....

I think I am a better mother in theory than in practice also! But we love our little ones and that's most important right? gotta go, my kid needs another ice pop...

LOL, all parents are perfect before they're actually parents. :)
For reasons other than my concern about his nutrition I swore not to give my oldest sugar, but for snack almost everyday we sit at the table and enjoy a cookie together.

Before I had kids, I swore I would cook a nutritious meal every night. Sean is currently on his second night in a row of cereal for dinner -- it's full of vitamins & minerals, right?

Before I had kids, I swore we'd eat dinner at the dinner table every night. We have a kitchen table? Where?!

I was an awesome Mom too. You know... before I had kids ;-). You ROCK, Jill!!!

Haha! I completely agree with everything said in this post and I am definitely guilty of many of those same things :) Have a great trip!

Do people really say these things before they have kids?

Before I had a child, I thought I would be a SAHM, but now I am working outside the home. More broad than some of the examples here, and I didn't really "swear" I would never work, so maybe there's a difference.

Yes. Yes. Yes. And Yes. I do believe all of these apply to my mothering skills (or lack thereof...haha!) as well. :) Miss you boogers!
